OCD effects about 1% of our population. 2.2 million adults and 500,000 children.
OCD does not go away but it can be managed. It is typically treated as a chemical problem however at times drugs do not help. Could others things help? Treating imbalances in the gut microbiome, levels of toxins, stool and nutritional analysis can help.
There is some work being done with inflammation in the brain and the gut microbiome.
A study reported that individuals with OCD had low abundance and variety of key bacteria in the microbiome compared to the control group.
Dr. George Papanicolaou speaks about how he analyzes and treats a young patient of his diagnosed with OCD. Check out the Doctor’s Pharmacy Podcast for more information.
