Day 73: One thing I learned today…

I completed another great weekend at yoga teacher training in which I was given the opportunity to grow and learn alongside my peers. Individuals who I have laughed with, played with, meditated with, taught, learned from and practiced asana.

Today we visited the Yamas in our lectures. Yamas and their complement, Niyamas, represent a series of "right living" or ethical rules within Hinduism and Yoga. There are 5 Yamas: Ahimsa, Sayta, Asteya, Brahmacharya, Aparigraha. Over the next couple of day I will provide some examples of how we can incorporate these Yamas in the Contemporary World.

Ahimsa is the practice of Non-Violence. Here are some ways to incorporate Ahimsa”

Letting go of thinking negatively about our bodies

Respecting boundaries and listening to our bodies

Being mindful of thoughts (towards ourselves and others)

Using Mindful loving speech

Being mindful of our diets

Making informed decisions about our purchases

Mindfully supporting social and racial justice issues

Being kind to strangers

Living in harmony with nature

I have a lot of work ahead of me. How about you?
