Decision after decision

Day 346: One thing I learned today…

Do you ever feel like you just have decision after decision to make? Even running through the Starbucks line, there are more than 170,000 ways to customize your drink. It can be overwhelming. Some people even decide to only wear one outfit (buying multiple identical shirt and pants) to help with deciding what to wear daily.

Today I learned a strategy to help with decision fatigue. This seems simple but honestly it may be harder than you think. The key is being specific with your goals. The example given in the article related to limiting snacking… but what does that even mean. What is defined as snacking and when should it be limited. So rather than stating “I will limit my snacking after 7PM” try “ I will not eat after 7PM” as this takes any decisions out of the picture. You will not have to question if a piece of fruit counts as a snack or not. Now you may not be trying to limit your snacking however this can work with any goal you want to set for yourself. For example, if you are trying to incorporate a morning routine, be specific. Rather than setting a goal about meditating every morning, try “I will meditate at 6:45am every morning.”

What are some of your goals?
