Go take a Nap

Day 17: one thing I learned today

Go Take a NAP!!! I’ve talked to a couple people recently and there is this idea that napping is viewed negatively. We live in a society that is on the GO all the time. Sometimes we are just tired and that is okay. The sensation of needing a nap is called sleep pressure.

I found this interesting:

Brief naps are an effective way to catch up on either REM or non-REM sleep cycle deficiencies. Dr. Sara Mednick's book, Take a Nap! Change Your Life, details how napping helps you catch up on whatever type of sleep you might be deficient in due to recent imperfections in your evening sleep patterns.

20-30 minutes is all it takes to recalibrate. I actually have tried to stay away from naps as I thought this may interrupt with my sleep at night. Again I learned that brief naps should not interfere with this. I still feel that this may be individualized as I am not able to just take a 20-30 minute nap. If I am going to nap it’s a LONG nap.

How many nappers are out there?
