Day 107: One thing I learned today...
It’s estimated that we will spend somewhere around 7,000 hours waiting in line.
Don Wetzel came up with the idea of the ATM while he was standing in line at a busy bank. Then he decided to share his idea. His proposal was met with resistant at first. He was told that is the job of the teller, why would anyone need a machine for cashing checks and deposits? And there were a few failed attempts prior. He estimated being able to sell about 4,000 machines.September 2, 1969 the first ATM was opened in New York. The latest report estimated around 1.3 million machines worldwide.
Another fact, Don’s wife stated she has not used one because she enjoys the human contact of a teller. This lead to some research around the hidden dangers of automation. Check out the article below.
