Day 178: One thing I learned today…
Is breathing too much making people sick?
Sounds a bit crazy right? We need to breath to live but maybe breathing too much is making us sick… just like eating too much is making us sick.
Although this is hard to collect data on and gauge, it is thought that individuals are breathing between 12-20 breaths per minute. The higher end of this range is said to be about double what it used to be.
A study conducted by Dr. Buteyko consisted of over a thousand individuals ranging from young - old, sick - healthy. He found that individuals with asthma, hypertension, etc. were breathing much more than those who were considered healthy. Those who were breathing more tended to have higher resting heart rates, lower levels of carbon dioxide in the exhale and were loud mouth breathing beings.
Does this make you reconsider your breathing?
