Day 41: One thing I learned today...

Make change out of love not out of fear.

I listened to dietitian Reshaunda Thornton speak on relationships with food and she stated “we’re all in a relationship with food, till death do us part.” Which made me laugh but is so true. We need food to survive so we might as well create a loving and kind relationship with it.

She also introduced me to the Transition approach: Create space for healthier foods. Doesn’t mean you necessarily have to give up the burger and fries but maybe start with smaller portions. Cut it in half and introduce a healthier option as an additional side. I know myself well enough to know I will not ever be able to follow a totally restrictive diet.

If we get food to go, a lot of the time I will take a bite (or several) of my husbands greasy food and that can satisfy me while I typically order something a bit more supportive for me.

She also stated “Nutrition has to fit you, you cannot fit Nutrition”. Make sure you’re eating foods that you enjoy and that are supporting you. If you are not enjoying what you eat, you are not going to be able to sustain it.
