Day 60: One thing I learned today…
How often are you exercising? Do you think exercise could take the place of medication? Of course, there is a need for prescription medications however I believe that movement can act as medicine as well. Just as I believe food is medicine.
Participants were volunteers aged 50 years and older who met DSM-IV criteria for MDD - Major Depressive Disorder. Participants were randomly assigned to one of three treatments:
exercise
medication
combined exercise and medication
Results of this clinical trial indicate that exercise is a feasible therapy for patients suffering from MDD and may be at least as effective as standard pharmacotherapy.
