Day 24: One things I learned today…

Alia Crum studies the mind and body. She was interviewed on the Trained podcast. Alia discussed a study in which 84 hotel maids across 7 hotels participated. 1/3 of the women reported they engaged in no exercise while the other 2/3s said they did not work out regularly. A basic health and fitness assessment was conducted which results in poor health (similar to sedentary individuals).

The women were divided into 2 groups:

Group 1: These women were told and unfamiliar truth: their daily job constitutes more than enough physical activity to meet recommendations by the surgeon general

Group 2: Was not given the unfamiliar truth information.

A month later as a follow up assessment, the participants in Group 1 had remarkable results. On average the individuals in the group lost 2 pounds, blood pressure dropped and over all the women were “healthier” yet there was no change in behavior, only in mindset. Some even reported being more satisfied with their job in general. These changes were not seen in group 2. After the month, the information was also passed along to the participants in Group 2 as well.
