Day 114: One thing I learned today…

As part of my Yoga Teacher Training, we are learning about the Niymas which complement the Yamas. I previously posted about the 5 Yamas - take a look.

Niyamas are positive duties or observances. Both the Niymas and the Yamas are recommended activities and habits for healthy living, spiritual enlightenment and liberated state of existence.

Over the next couple of days, I will be sharing the 5 Niyamas.

Today, I read about Sauca with means Purity or Cleanliness. This goes deeper than cleansing of the body on the outside but internally as well. Both asana (the physical practice) and pranayama (breathing practice) both cleanse the body internally. In addition, it is important to cleanse the mind. Releasing thoughts which no longer serve such of hatred, anger, greed, or even passion.

Here are some way to implement in our daily lives.

- Healthy mindful diet

- Discernment in consumption(music, media, conversations)

- Spending time in nature

- Minimizing the landfill produced
