Day 213: One thing I learned today…

Today, 1 in 5 Americans have an autoimmune disease, and over 100 specific autoimmune

conditions. These range from Crohn’s, Hashimoto’s, Type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, to rheumatoid arthritis. Another disorders may also fall under this category but have not yet been identified. To simplify define autoimmune, the body attacks itself.

Sadly, there has been an increase in diagnosis.

Type 1 diabetes increased by 25% over past 10 years and others, such as Crohn’s, increased by 300% per year. In addition, 30% of people with an autoimmune disorder had a second autoimmune disorder.

Medications suppress symptoms but may not address the underlying causes.

Some Environmental factors/triggers included:

🟠 Poor diet - including processed foods and high sugar diets

🟠 Disrupted Gut Microbiome

🟠 Environmental Toxins - such as heavy metals and glyphosate

🟠 Stress - may be the biggest trigger

🟠 Chronic Infections (current or previous)

🟠 Sleep deprivation or circadian disruption

Published research shows that the Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP) can help treat Autoimmune disorders.

I just happened to make an AIP Breakfast bowl today. It was a bit weird to have shrimp and veggie purée for breakfast but it was tasty!
