So many options...

Day 184: One thing I learned today…

If I were to ask you if you would prefer a large number of options or a few options when making a decision what would you feel was best?

Did you know Starbucks offers over 80,000 drink options? So many choices.

Is choice effecting our well-being? If you think about it, we make decisions all day long. From the time we wake up we start thinking about what we are going to wear, what we are going to eat for breakfast, when we are going to leave for work, which route we are taking etc.

Decisions can be cognitively draining. This is known as decision fatigue. Some research is showing that limiting choices can help reduce stress and anxiety.

One study compared rate of consumption of a product when 6 samples were given compared to 24. Those who were only offered 6 different samples were more likely to make a purchase than those offered 24.

Where do you fall? I have found myself more and more asking my husband to make a choice for me. Especially when it comes to picking out a place to eat. This is a stressor for me…. but I also like having choices :)
