Stress can cause muscle imbalances

Day 25: One thing I learned today...

Another little part of my journey includes taking coursework from NASM to learn more about training and the body. During my studies today, I read about muscle imbalances. Typically when thinking about this I think about posture, repetitive movements, sitting for hours on end, etc. It was brought to my attention that emotional distress can also cause muscle imbalances.

If a person is experiencing anxiety, this can cause the muscles to tense up leading to pain and stiffness. Constant stress/worry such as this can interrupt the immune system from functioning properly. In addition, chronic anxiety can lead to weakness in muscles.

Overall, this is just one more reason to develop a self-care routine, incorporate regular exercise and eat a variety of whole foods which support your body.
