Day 54: One think I learned today…

W.A.I.T- Why am I talking?

I was introduced to this acronym twice recently.

This morning on my yoga mat, the instructor asked those of us in the class to identify our intention for the practice. Immediately I thought of “Listen”. I wanted to just listen to my body and allow my practice to be just want I needed for the morning. This intention worked its way into my entire day.

I was able to open the windows and listen to the river, the birds chirping, my bulldog snoring, a lecture, a client, etc. Today was a great day just to listen. I have a tendency to talk when there is silence or to over talk (which I probably did today as well). I am trying to embrace the idea of “Listen twice as much as you talk” and to ask myself “why am I talking?” I encourage you to think about what you want to say before you say it and just see how it feels.

Am I talking because it is an opinion? or for approval? is it am appropriate time? to control and take over the conversation? to prove my point? should I be asking a question instead?

What is your intention behind what you are saying.
