Day 30: One thing I learned today…
Put yourself out there. It may be uncomfortable but can kind of feel good.
I cannot remember the last time I wrote a poem besides for an assignment in middle school but here goes:
I am from homemade cake batter and licking the spoon, from Cabbage Patch, Legos, and Brio
I am from Cat-walks- splinters, dirt and giggles
I am from the ravine out back full of vines- where time stood still and adventure began
I’m from the hill overlooking the lake – fish on a line, swinging branches, sledding accidents.
I’m from Oglebay, a contagious laugh
I am from Barb and Rick with the scent of burnt garlic bread and diesel
From a buck, two ninety-eight and this that and whatever
I’m from the Disciples of Christ, Camp Christian, and Fresh like spring, I want to sing, I want to Pass it On.
I’m from Ohio, Akron and Silver Lake, from cream of chicken, mashed potatoes, Monter-rarry Chesse.
From the brown house on Kate Drive – wheel of fortune, mini apple juice bottles, and baby food
From a table full of stale crackers and butterscotch candies – Rummikub, cards and grandma’s dice game
From a strong woman holding us all together, from a man who showed love by fixing my breaks
I am from love, laughter, goochiness and eetteey, beeteey, bootsey, bootsey, bootsey, boo.
