You Now Have a Shorter Attention Span Than a Goldfish

Day 69: One thing I learned today…

Okay this one made me laugh a bit and I am taking this with a grain of salt.

I came across an article by time.com Titled, “You Now Have a Shorter Attention Span Than a Goldfish”. The article described goldfish as having an attention span of 9 seconds. And a study by Microsoft Corp reported that between a survey of 2000 participants and a study of brain activity of 112 others found that from 2000 to 2015 the average attention span dropped from 12 seconds to 8 seconds. Wonder where it is now?

Supposedly, the report indicated that our ability to multitask has increase due to the mobile age however, I disagree with this. In an earlier post, I referenced a study with evidence suggesting we are not good at multitasking because out brains are supposedly only able to process one stream of information at a time. We just have the illusions that we are able to manage multiple stimuli but really it slows you down (Earl Miller MIT neuroscience professor). What are your thoughts? Maybe this is individual but I know for myself, I am much better off if I focus on one task at a time.

Now I am not sure how relevant this information is because this is an older article but it did make me stop and think about it.
